LifeLinks Community Centre (LLCC)

LifeLinks Community Centre

LifeLinks Community Centre (LLCC) was established in 2005 and was made possible through a Lotterywest grant. The centre was the result of several years of negotiations between SCWHS (then Rockingham Women’s Health and Information Centre) and the City of Rockingham to first establish the need for a larger multi-purpose centre and then to identify a suitable site for a community services centre and to conduct a feasibility study on the proposed site.

SCWHS received a grant from the Lotteries Commission to determine the feasibility of establishing a new facility. From SCWHS perspective there were several key aims of establishing a new purpose built facility:

  • To enable SCWHS to provide a range of responsive and accessible services to women and their families.
  • To enable clients to receive services in an appropriate facility.
  • To enable SCWHS to grow and be sustainable in order to meet the needs of an expanding population.
  • To facilitate the provision of complementary services by other organisations.

Once the need for a purpose built community service centre was established the next step was to find a suitable location.

At the outset the City identified seven potential locations. After consideration of factors such as transport access and proximity to other facilities and services it was decided that City Boulevard in the Rockingham City Centre was the most appropriate site.

At an ordinary meeting the Council resolved to support the proposed development of a multi-purpose community building on the Civic Boulevard site. A feasibility study was then undertaken at the request of the Council, to establish the impact on the local area of a separate development site.

Working in collaboration, SCWHS and the City of Rockingham then made an application to the Lotteries Commission for funding to construct LLCC on the proposed site. The funding was granted in May 2002 and the building finalised in 2005.

After 5 years of work LLCC was opened for business and SCWHS was able to relocate to the centre in August 2005.

The City of Rockingham holds the Deed of Trust for LLCC and has a 50 year lease agreement with SCWHS.

SCWHS is responsible for the management of the LLCC and has lease agreements with the co-tenants of the centre.

The co-tenants of LLCC are integral to the goal of providing complementary services and a holistic approach to health. Whilst a number of the co-tenants have worked collaboratively with SCWHS for many years the establishment of LLCC has opened up new opportunities to develop new relationships and realise the goal of an integrated service model.
